John and Julie Lawrie and their family have been involved with alpacas in Australia for more than 20 years. We are founding members of both the Australian Alpaca Association and the Central Western Region of NSW. We have been very much involved in Association activities at a Regional and National level for the past 20 years.
We manage up to 300 alpacas on a farm near Wellington which we have in the past integrated with a sheep and cattle enterprise. Our five children have all contributed to the success of our family business over many years.
Julie’s passion is fleece stewarding and you can read her publication on fleece preparation for showing under Our Publications. (Preparing your Fleeces for Judging)
John’s passion is soil health and he still claims that this is why he first decided to buy alpacas back in 1989. He is a certified Soil Scientist Grade 3, and has been digging up the dirt on soils since 1971. You can also read about The Benefits of Alpacas in the Australian Environment this Century in Our Publications. (The Benefits of Alpacas in the Australian Environment this Century)
John and Julie believe the Australian alpaca industry will become the major producer of highest quality alpaca fibre in the world within 20 years. We have been members of the Alpaca Co-op since 1996 and continue to provide our entire annual clip to the Australian Alpaca Fibre LTD (AAFL) to produce quality Australian made products for local and overseas markets.
Our goals are to:
Our dream is "to see alpacas develop into a financially rewarding and environmentally friendly mainstream agricultural industry".
